The Thermal Map layers in the Map View display the thermal map of the roads with different colors. There are three types of thermal map layers:
Forecast time step thermal map layer
Observed time step thermal map layer
Forecast minimum thermal map layer
In addition, the following layers display thermal map related data:
Salting Routes Layer: Shows thermal map data for the selected route.
Thermal Map Domains Layer: Shows the climatic domains that drive the thermal maps.
From the drop-down list above the thermal map layer selections, select the forecast which is used for the thermal maps. For example, if you have selected a forecast for "3rd Feb at noon", the forecast thermal maps (minimum or timestep) refer to the night between the 3rd and 4th of February.
If there are no forecasts available for the current time, the drop-down list is not displayed. Forecast thermal maps are not available, but you may still view the observed thermal maps.
The temperatures are indicated with the color of the road on the map. The thermal map legends are displayed next to the map when thermal map data is available.
Allows you to view the forecast state of the mapped network at any given time during the night after the selected forecast (22.00-07.00).
To view the forecast time step thermal map, select the Forecast time step thermal map layer from the side panel.
The validity time of the available thermal map forecast is displayed in the time slider.
You can see how the thermal map data changes by using the time line controls and the playback controls. For more information, see topic Using Time Line Controls.
NOTE: In the previous version of the software, if the user had selected time step thermal map and selected a past time with the time slider, the map would show a thermal map associated with the observed values. Now, when Forecast time step thermal map is selected, selecting a time point in the past will still use the data from the reference forecast.
Works similarly to the Forecast time step thermal map, but instead of using forecast as reference, uses the actual observed values. The validity time of the thermal map is displayed in the time slider. A time point in the future cannot be selected.
Displays the absolute minimum forecast for the night (22.00-07.00) across the mapped road network. This gives you a quick overview of the lowest temperature expected on the mapped network, regardless of when that might occur during the night.
The validity time of the available thermal map forecast is displayed in the time slider.
Can be viewed at any time of the day by selecting the Forecast Minimum thermal map layer from the side panel.
Select the Salting Routes option from the side panel. The legend for salting route colors is displayed.
Below the legend in the side panel, you can select the thermal map type and the salting route. The salting route is displayed on the map and the validity time of the thermal map is displayed in the time slider.
The thermal maps work as described above for each thermal map type.
If there are forecasts available, the Salting routes pop-up window is displayed, showing the minimum forecast temperatures for each route, as calculated by the thermal map service.
You can move the salting route pop-up window by dragging it with the mouse.
You can sort the columns by clicking the column header.
You can select the displayed route on the map by clicking the route name in the list.
